Classical Music Performance at the former Command House by Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, hosted by Symphony 92.4FM

Description

Haydn: String Quartet No. 62 in C major, Op. 76, No. 3, “Emperor” (complete)
Andrew Ng Wen Hao (B.Mus2) violin
Lin Ying-Chu (B.Mus2) violin
May Loh Qiao Qian (B.Mus2) viola
Jennifer Lim Yi Mei (B.Mus2) cello

Let the musicians take you on a journey back in time, and relive the grandeur moments in this monument. This particular string quartet is famous for its second movement, a set of theme and variations. The melody is later used as the German national anthem “Deutschlandlied”. It was originally written for the Emperor of Austria, hence its nickname, “Emperor”. Built just before World War II, the Former Command House plays an important role in Singapore’s military history and this sense of patriotism which the monument represents is expressed through this specially selected piece by the students of Yong Siew Toh music conservatory.
